Dark Canyon Wilderness - Southeastern Utah
This region provides a mix of forest and desert connected by a system of canyons with terraced red rock walls. These 2,500 canyon walls that link the desert environments with the forested mesas and plateaus of Elk Ridge. This high elevation canyon setting is a dramatic change from the surrounding National Park and BLM lands.
The higher elevation treed areas are home to a lot of wildlife, which is something you don't tend to find in much of southern Utah's desert dominated landscape. Its rich archeological history and diverse ecosystems make it a snapshot of Utah in one small area.
